BMW Motorrad Sales Up 6.5% for Q3 2011

A mixed quarter for BMW Motorrad, as the Bavarian company has once again posted a positive sales quarter of 6.5% growth over Q3 2010, despite losing money overall in the current inclement financial weather. Selling 28,862 units in this year’s third quarter, BMW Motorrad’s sales, as usual, were primarily carried by the BMW brand, which sold 26,312 motorcycles. Nicky Hayden

Nicholas “Nicky” Patrick Hayden (born July 30, 1981 in Owensboro, Kentucky) also known as The Kentucky Kid is the American professional motorcycle racer who won the MotoGP World Championship in 2006.
Hayden is one of a long line of American road racers to come from the American dirt-track scene. In 1999, Hayden won his first Grand National Championship race (Hagerstown Half Mile) and took Rookie of the Year honors. He was also declared the AMA’s athlete of the Year. In 2000, Nicky Hayden won the Springfield Short Track. In 2002, despite racing in just a handful of dirt-track events, Hayden was able to win four races: Springfield Short Track (twice), Springfield TT Steeplechase, and Peoria TT Steeplechase. Hayden only lacks a win at a mile track to join Dick Mann, Kenny Roberts Sr., Bubba Shobert, and Doug Chandler in the prestigious “Grand Slam Club.”
For 2006, Hayden was charged with spearheading Repsol Honda’s championship aspirations, and was the only rider to be handed the full 2006 Honda bike during pre-season testing. He led the championship from the third race and looked set to break Valentino Rossi’s championship-winning streak. Capturing the championship was not without peril: in the second to last round at Estoril in Portugal, teammate Dani Pedrosa lost the front-end while trying to pass Hayden. The resulting lowside accident took out both bikes. This left Hayden eight points behind Rossi in the championship with one race left to go. In the last race of the season on October 29, 2006 Rossi crashed on lap 5 trying to make up for a poor start. Hayden won the 2006 title that day by finishing 3rd (9.3s) behind race winner Troy Bayliss and Loris Capirossi.
Hayden finished the 2009 MotoGP championship in 13th place (out of 18), his worst result in 7 years of racing MotoGP. His championship campaign was marked by remarkable misfortune, being speared off the track on three different occasions, resulting in no point scoring races. Yuki Takahashi, Alex De Angelis and Jorge Lorenzo crashed into him at Motegi, Misano and Phillip Island respectively.
Early in the 2010 season, Hayden noted that there is pressure from the American audience for one of the three frontrunning American riders (himself and the Tech 3 Yamaha duo of Colin Edwards and Ben Spies) to win a race.

2012 MotoGP Rider List – Latest Update After Valencia

Alongside the on-track action, the final round of MotoGP at Valencia saw a flurry of activity to fill the final seats of the 2012 MotoGP grid. That process was not as easy as it could have been: the tragic death of Marco Simoncelli left the picture complicated at Gresini, and the continuing uncertainty over Suzuki's plans for 2012 made it difficult for riders to commit to the Japanese factory.

In the end, though, most of the vacant seats have now been filled. The single bike that Pramac Ducati will field next year will be taken by Hector Barbera, as expected. Alvaro Bautista finally announced he would be leaving Suzuki and joined Gresini, to race the single Honda RC213V  that the team will have at its disposal for next year. And though the place at LCR Honda is still officially empty, the performance of Stefan Bradl aboard the Honda 800 during the two-day test was sufficient to secure the deal, sources report, with official confirmation expected over the next few days.

Suzuki's situation remains unclear, though the team continues to fight valiantly to remain on the grid, at least with an 800 for the first half of 2012, and after a strong test on the bike, Randy de Puniet is now favorite to take that spot.

Parker Brothers Does Daniel Simon?s Cosmic Detonator

We’re big fans of Daniel Simon’s work here at Asphalt & Rubber, especially his Cosmic Motors series. Stocked with some of the most imaginative illustrations of vehicles from an alternate reality, Simon’s two-wheeled pièce de résistance is the Cosmic Motors Detonator motorcycle. 2011 Valencia Post-Race Day 2 Round Up – The Season Is Over, The Void Awaits

The 2011 MotoGP season is now officially over, and the first steps on the road to 2012 have been taken. Coming on top of a race weekend, two days of testing leave the MotoGP paddock exhausted, drained, and after an 18-race season, quite frankly sick of the sight of each other.

Fortunately for the MotoGP class, the weather perked up on Monday, producing two days of glorious weather for the riders to test in. While the track was still a little dirty on Tuesday, by Wednesday conditions were perfect, the track dry and warm, or at least as warm as it is going to get in early November. Everyone came away tired but content with the work they had gotten done, and no one complained they had not got round to testing everything they had on their list. With the old 800s making way for the 1000cc MotoGP bike, it was important that everyone had time on the track to test.

MotoGp Performances

moto Gp wallpaper desktopSpeaking about Pedrosa, believe it or not he might present in Australia despite the collarbone fracture he suffered this past Friday in Japan during the practice for the Although he won’t be able to fight for the title, since Lorenzo’s 297 are impossible to reach with just 100 points left to dispute in the next four races, he still has a shot to finish the championship in second place, which is occupied by Dani Pedrosa with 228 points. These two wins are his first ones of the season, and have helped him to consolidate in the third position with 180 points. Last year’s race was won by Australian rider Casey Stoner ?Ducati Team-, who has performed at a great level in the past two races ? Japan Grand Prix and Gran Premio A-Style de Aragon- to finish in first place. Last year’s race is just an example of how rain is a common factor on this racetrack, when the riders had to wait over 30 minutes until the heavy rain yielded.

This racetrack is known for being long and modern, and where dealing with the rain is something very characteristic of it. Besides having the opportunity to witness Lorenzo proclaim himself as the champion, the 2010 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix will also have a special celebration, as this will be 20th anniversary of the competition, which hosted its first race in 1991. Three years later Lorenzo finds himself at the gates of another title, only that this time there is a big difference: it would be his first Moto GP championship. This racetrack brings good memories to the Spaniard rider, since this is where his second Moto2 championship was accomplished in 2007.

As the 2010 MotoGP championship comes closer to an end with just four races left ?Malaysia, Australia, Portugal, and Valencia- , Jorge Lorenzo will have his first chance to crown himself as the champion if he wins in Sepang. A victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix from Lorenzo would decide the MotoGP championship in his favor.

Alvaro Bautista Leaves Suzuki To Join Gresini Honda For 2012

As predicted over the past few days, Alvaro Bautista has finally signed with the San Carlo Gresini Honda team for the 2012 season. The Spaniard had been holding on for news from Suzuki, but with no confirmation of the factory's involvement for 2012, Bautista's patience was tested to its limits and he had to make a decision.

Bautista will now ride a Honda RC213V for the Gresini team in 2012. Though HRC's Shuhei Nakamoto is said to regard Bautista very highly, it is unlikely that Bautista will receive the same support that Marco Simoncelli was destined to in 2012. The satellite teams will start the year very close to the factory spec bikes, but will not receive the updates as fast as the factory bikes.

With Bautista signed, that leaves just two gaps still to be filled on the factory prototype bikes for 2012. Suzuki's participation in MotoGP is still uncertain – though a decision should be taken by the end of this week – and the LCR Honda is yet to be officially filled. Given the outstanding showing that Stefan Bradl has put on in his two days on the 2011 800cc bike at the Valencia test, there is every reason to believe that Bradl will be racing for LCR Honda in 2012.

Below are the official press releases, first from Suzuki announcing Bautista's departure, and then from Gresini announcing his signing:

New Ducati Desmosedici GP12 1000cc Valentino Rossi

After yesterday’s Honda completed the second trial with a 2012 Honda 1000cc motorcycle protype with riders Casey Stoner. So now turn Ducati recently tested both New Prototype Ducati Desmosedici GP12 1000cc motor makes. The Italian manufacyurer experiment with circuit riders Valentino Rossi at Mugello, Italy on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Valentino Rossi completed the trial with 60 Lap at Mugello circuit with circuit conditions Warm and sunny. The test this time is Valentino Rossi’s second test with Ducati Desmosedici GP12 1000cc.

Here’s a greeting Rossi after testing with the Ducati Desmosedici GP12 as in reports in the Official MotoGP site. “I?m pleased, because it was a positive test,? said Valentino at day?s end. ?We took full advantage of the time we had, because the track and weather conditions were perfect. I liked the new asphalt a lot. The surface is smooth, those holes that I knew so well are now gone, and the grip is fantastic. I must say they?ve done a great job, because if it?s possible, riding here at Mugello is now even better than before. I?m happy to have come back here to test after my injury last year, because it was a nice feeling and a good day.
